We are elated to share that our new mobile shower trailer, the Pathway Homes Mobile Outreach Unit (MOU) is on the road! On October 28, we launched our inaugural ride and were able to provide hot showers on a chilly fall day at a local church in Springfield, Virginia.

Through this innovative initiative, we offer access to showers and hygiene products, comfort, and dignity to our neighbors experiencing homelessness throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. It is more than just a shower, though; it is also an opportunity to create a pathway to permanent housing. Our case managers will be available to guests to connect them to county housing resources and make the necessary referrals to get them started on their way home.

Thank you to our partners for their generous support in making this vision a reality: Virginia Housing, Potomac Health Foundation, The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, Qlarant Foundation, Amazon, and Around Town Movers.

knitted hatsThanks also to a Pathway Homes resident, whose knitted woolen hats brought some much-needed warmth and color to a cold afternoon! Each guest was gifted a hat to keep their heads warm after they stepped outside the shower unit. She has now pulled together a group of other resident knitters to create more hats and scarves for MOU guests.

We would love to accept handmade hats and gloves to provide our MOU guests with warmth this season. If you know any knitters who would like to engage in a meaningful volunteer activity, get in touch with Anne at afactor@pathwayhomes.org
