Pathway Homes Renames Award after Rep. Connolly and Presented to Del. Bulova at Annual Breakfast

Pathway Homes recognized the dedication, leadership, and support of Del. David Bulova, Virginia Housing Alliance Executive Director Brian Koziol, and Virginia Housing. The awards took place during Pathway Homes’ Steps to Pathways Breakfast on October 3 at the Fairview Marriott for their efforts to ensure vulnerable members of the community have needed services and a place to call home.

Delegate David Bulova receives Gerry Connolly Spirit of Hope AwardThis year Pathway Homes’ Spirit of Hope Award was renamed as the Gerry Connolly Spirit of Hope Award in recognition of the late Congressman’s years of service and support of Pathway Homes and its clients. On hand for the name change were Congressman James Walkinshaw and Connolly’s wife Cathy “Smitty” Connolly. Walkinshaw, Connolly, and Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read helped present the renamed award to honoree Delegate David Bulova for his tremendous work to help people get mental health services and stable housing.

The annual event raised more than $150,000 and awareness for Pathways’ work to prevent and end homelessness. It featured speakers including Pathway clients, civic leaders, and its awardees. Nearly 300 people attended the annual event in support of Pathways—a nonprofit providing mental health services starting with safe, stable housing to individuals marginalized by poverty and inequity.

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors for making our annual fundraiser such a success. Steps to Pathways is a wonderful opportunity to raise the much-needed unrestricted dollars that  government and private donations do not provide. If you were not able to attend, or if you would like to help us hit our goal, you can still donate to support our annual fund.

We were particularly proud to welcome two exceptional Pathway Homes residents in attendance. They have overcome significant challenges in their journeys toward recovery, are thriving in stable housing, and eagerly share the message that recovery and stability are indeed possible. Jason Sabbath from Florida and Joy “Michele” Bryant from Virginia gave not only their time and energy to speak at the breakfast this year, but they were also willing to share
deeply private parts of their lives and recovery journey with incredible transparency while infusing a message of hope. Jason and Michele, you are the reason Pathway Homes exists and why we remain committed to reaching more people who can benefit from our housing and services. We could not do what we do without you communicating firsthand the value of a housing-focused approach to changing lives for the better.
