October and November have proven to be popular months for corporate groups to gather and engage in team-oriented volunteer activities. In doing so, they help current Pathway Homes residents as well as those in our community who are still struggling to find stable housing so they can begin their journey to recovery. Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Fannie Mae both stepped up in a big way this fall to lend their support.
On Wednesday, October 29, AWS employees in Halloween costumes, gathered at their headquarters in Herndon, VA, for a day of service. They assembled over 200 hygiene kits to distribute to unhoused individuals in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. who visit the Pathway Homes Mobile Outreach Unit. Not only did AWS order all the supplies and organize the logistics around this special event, but they also demonstrated the productive power of the assembly line by turning out finished products in record time!
One week later, on a picture-perfect fall day, a Fannie Mae group came together at one of our congregate living sites in Chantilly to do a full yard clean-up, complete with raking, mulching, and pruning. They even built a brand-new walkway from the back courtyard so that residents can easily roll their trash and recycling bins to and from the curb each week. Special thanks to the great people at Volunteer Fairfax for facilitating and making it such a memorable and productive day!
As is the case with so many of our properties, this Chantilly home still has a list of maintenance and improvement projects yet to be completed.
